Melanie McDaniel is a Tax Partner in the Houston office of PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”). She is the leader of PwC’s National Credits and Incentives Network, and the leader of PwC Houston’s State and Local Tax (“SALT”) practice,

Ms. McDaniel specializes in assisting clients in securing tax and other financial benefits from the wide variety of credits and incentives available to businesses in the U.S. from federal, state and local sources. She works with client developing tax efficient structures, obtaining refunds for overpaid taxes, evaluating and managing tax controversy matters and navigating the complexities of the financial statement impact of state and local taxes, tax credits and negotiated incentives.

Ms. McDaniel has over thirty years of SALT experience, having served clients in the energy, consumer products, entertainment, media, and technology and engineering and construction industries. Her clients include SEC registrants, as well as closely held private companies and inbound public and private companies. Previously, Ms. McDaniel has led PwC SALT practices in Dallas, Denver, San Jose and Los Angeles.

Ms. McDaniel is a frequent speaker on state and local tax matters presenting to organizations such as the Council on State Taxation and the Tax Executives Institute. Ms. McDaniel contributed to Bender’s State Taxation: Principles and Practice, authoring “Corporate Income and Franchise Tax Treatment of Special Entities.” She developed the curriculum for and previously taught San Jose State University Masters in Tax Program’s “Advanced State and Local Taxes.”
